ENGINE SHED STUDENT PROFILES
At age 14, Sam Fear was cutting Banksy stencils as part of his GCSE art lessons and it was at this point that he said he started to realise street art was not only something that had appealed to him a number of years earlier, but something that was accessible and he could start practising. That was a number of years ago and Sam has been working on his technique for 6 years now. Sam notes how he’s proud that he started learning so early on, as many of the street artists he follows and admires are in their 40’s due to it taking such a long time for street artists to find their unique style. Artists that have inspired Sam and influenced his own work are mostly fine liner artists including cj_hendry and Luke Dixon.
17 year old, Mike Bailey, is a Year 13 boomsatsuma media production student studying at Bristol's creative and Digital hub, The Engine Shed. One of Mike’s passions is Graphic design which has now become the focus of his work as he begins to specialise in his second year at boom. Mike likes exploring nature in his designs and particularly enjoys using contrasted colours and imagery. His work below was even in the recent boomsatsuma brochure! Mike’s next step after boomsatsuma is to go into a creative profession, so he can continue to develop his skills practically whilst earning. He would eventually like to go freelance with his end goal being able to travel the world whilst managing his own business, doing what he loves, designing and app development.

HOW TO APPLY
Learners will need to be 16 on the 1st September 2018. You will need English and Maths grades A* to C. However students that can demonstrate attributes required by the Agency and who don’t have GCSE English or Maths at Grade C (Level 4) or above, will be supported to achieve those qualifications alongside the course. Though experience of creative and media subjects are advantageous, we are more interested in energy and commitment, and welcome your application even if you have had little or no experience. We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in the way we recruit.
Go to boomsatsuma.education/apply and complete the short online application form. The team will review the information you provide and successful applicants will be invited to an interview.
There are no course fees for UK students under the age of 19, but there is a studio enrichment fee of £120 per annum. Students will be eligible to apply for a discretionary bursary to cover this and to assist with travel costs.
