Tell your story with boomsatsuma’s Films In Transit

boomsatsuma is inviting Bristolians to tell their story, by creating a short film around their great idea, with full equipment and support, to be screened in July 2021.

With Covid lockdown rules restricting locations for boomsatsuma students to make films for their course modules, Curriculum Lead, Luke Fazackerley, created a Covid-safe solution. Luke explains:

“We purchased a Transit van and set a brief to create a three-minute short film. Working in team bubbles of four or five, we’re giving full creative license to write, direct, shoot, star in and edit their own film.

“We are extending the project beyond our own students and want to hear Bristol based personal or community stories. We can take the transit anywhere around Bristol, giving people the freedom to base their story from a location of their choosing, and the film must have the Transit in-shot for at least two-and-a-half of their three-minute films.

“We’re planning an event for July - a public showcase for all of the films. After 15 months of no events, it’s fabulous that we can bring people together again to enjoy the creativity we know will shine within these short films and celebrate their skills with the ‘Golden Transit’ Awards!”

Students studying Creative Digital Media and Film & TV diplomas are already formulating their ideas to shoot during May, and boomsatsuma is now extending the opportunity to Bristol community groups and would-be storytellers across the city, at no cost.

boomsatsuma course tutors will be on hand throughout the process to assist teams with equipment and to drive the Transit to their local location of choice. Luke continues:

“We are partnered with The Bottle Yard Studios, Films@59 and the BBC, so are aware that there is a need for new talent to enter this expanding sector. Supporting people who might not have access to the resources to make a film and encourage people’s creativity is part of the journey to get a taste of making a film, or create a portfolio piece.”

If you are harbouring any creative ideas, or authentic stories about Bristol people or places and would like to apply for #FilmsInTransit. No experience of filmmaking is needed, as the idea is king and if selected we will support those selected to turn ideas into film.
