Join our Production team at boomsatsuma Film School and build the skills to land a job in film and TV.

Join us at Bristol’s only Film School and learn the skills you need to get a job in the film and TV industry. This dynamic and exciting course has been co-created with Bristol’s globally renowned film and TV production companies, so what we teach you is bang up to date. We're connected to top employers in the city and that means you will get to network with the best in the business - from the BBC to Films at 59.

Choose this degree and we'll help you develop the specialist skills you need for all aspects of film production. If you're interested in cinematography, scriptwriting, directing, producing or the technical side of film-making, this is the right course for you.

THE team

MODULES

You'll learn producing, screenwriting, directing, cinematography, sound and art department, alongside specific industry roles like camera assistant, boom operator, set builder and production manager. Right from year one you'll network with and gain work experience - from documentaries at BBC Factual and Natural History Unit to feature films and drama.

Modules are subject to change in response to student feedback and developments in industry. Applicants will be advised of significant changes to the advertised programme.
Where can this course take you?

This course will help you gain the skills to work in the film, streaming and TV industries. Graduates are well placed to apply for roles such as production manager, camera operator, assistant editor, lighting trainee, production designer and cinematographer, alongside many others.

LOCATIONS

Our Film School is based at the Tobacco Factory in the centre of Bristol’s vibrant arts district. You'll also work out of boomsatsuma Studios in BS4, as well as on location with numerous industry partners. Across our locations you can access production and post production suites (Avid, DaVinci), cameras (Arri, Blackmagic, Sony) and sound and lighting equipment.

Projects

BA (Hons) Game Design and Production is a new course so there isn't any student work to show just yet. In the meantime, here's some inspiring projects from boomsatsuma Game Art students.

Killing Bugs

Jack Lee Pitchford (Dir.)

Nominated, RTS West of England Student Awards 2024. Winner of Craft Award for Writing (Jack Lee Pitchford).

A short documentary that details the impact of a father’s suicide on the family. Utilising archive material, animation and audio interviews, the filftion and Filmmaking: Post Production. Made as part of the 2nd year module, Documentary.

The Bristol Crocodile

Lucy Rowe (Dir.)

Nominated, RTS West of England Student Awards 2024. Winner of Craft Award for Writing (Lucy Rowe and Teddy Smith). Featured in Bristol24/7, on BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Points West.

A love note to our hometown of Bristol. A joyful, uplifting short film, based very loosely on a true story, that showcases the Bristolian spirit.

A collaboration between Filmmaking: Production and Filmmaking: Post Production. Made as part of the 2nd year module, Drama.

In the mundanity of the quiet British countryside, Sunflower embarks on an extraordinary journey of escapism, rebellion and friendship with her best friend and confidant - a talking sunflower. But when things turn dark, can Sunflower learn how to save the day?
